ED CHICOINE · FOUNDER, AUTHOR, TEACHER

Four Decades of Listening to How People Create Change

For 41 years, Ed Chicoine worked as a chiropractor with approximately 15,000 people. One question kept returning: why do people understand what would help them, and still repeat the same response?

That question led him past advice and toward what actually drives behaviour: brain predictions, nervous system state, inner narrative, emotional tension, identity and repetition.

He is the founder of InPowered Mindset, creator of the Neuro-Integrative Release Method (NIRM), Eddy Chat and author of InPowered Performance.

PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY

From Clinical Observation to Brain-Informed Education

Across four decades, Ed became increasingly interested in why expectations, language, emotional state and perceived control appeared to shape how people experienced difficulty and responded to care.

The same stories kept surfacing: my body is broken, nothing works, this always happens to me, I have no choice. He noticed emotional pressure arriving alongside physical tension and changes in behaviour.

Those observations led him into brain function: predictive processing, neuroplasticity, regulation, release work, identity and the role of repetition. Writing InPowered Performance is how he organised the ideas into something teachable.

THE METHOD HE DEVELOPED

NIRM Grew From the Gap Between Knowing and Doing

People often know the better choice and still cannot reach it when an old prediction or emotional pattern becomes active. NIRM brings awareness, release, choice, aligned action and repetition into one process for moving from resistance toward flow.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Science, Story, Practice, Philosophy

Ed's teaching style is calm, conversational and practical. He respects the intelligence of the room and does not position people as broken.

  • Science to create understanding
  • Story to create recognition
  • Practice to create application
  • Philosophy to explore meaning and responsibility

His central message is not that people need more pressure or more discipline. It is that they can learn to understand their internal state, regain access to choice, and put the repetitions in until a more useful response becomes easier to reach.

WALKING THE PRACTICE

In His Seventies and Still Going Strong....

Ed's own state is part of the teaching. Now in his seventies, he keeps the habits he recommends: daily movement, low and slow breathing, supportive self-talk, and easing tension as it appears instead of storing it until it demands attention.

He makes no claim that mindset prevents illness or replaces medical care. What he can point to is a practice he has kept for decades, and a body that still works well enough to pick up the weights.

A LIFE OF EXPLORATION

Learning Beyond the Office

In 1997, Ed and his wife Gaye left Ottawa with their six children and travelled to the bottom of South America and back, three and a half years of unfamiliar cultures, uncertainty, resourcefulness and shared purpose. In 2011 the family completed a relay run of roughly 15,000 kilometres across Canada and the United States to promote personal responsibility for health.

Those years reinforced the belief underneath the work: people are capable of far more when meaning, responsibility, relationships and consistent action come together.

The Marathon of Health was featured on CTV News Channel, CBC News, Fox News Channel, NBC News and ABC News, and recognised by the House of Commons of Canada, the City of Boston, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and mayors across the country.

A Lifelong Interest in Helping People Live Better

A short media feature shares Ed’s commitment to helping people understand their potential and take an active role in their lives.

Helping People Regain Access to the Capacities They Already Have

Ed works now with leaders, professionals and teams who want to understand what sits beneath recurring patterns, communicate from a better state, and recover more completely.
